We also service Clocks, so if you have a question or and issue with a grandfather clock or wall clock, give us a call. Often, we are able to help over the phone.
One of the most common questions we get is: Will moisture affect my new Grandfather Clock? The answer is yes. The wood in your new clock will absorb the moisture in the air. This affects the way the clock sounds. So keeping the humidity at a reasonable level (20 to 30 % ) is a wise decision.
Another common question, when dealing with an older clock. How do I keep my clock clean, Should I send it off or have a technician come and clean it.? When we are called on a service call to help with a clock that is stopped, one of our first actions is to spray the inside of the clock with air. Often, a piece of dust has settled into a gear. We get or dust cleaner from Office Depot. ( The cans of air to clean computer keyboards.) If this does not work, we recommend having a technician clean and service your clocks every 3 - 5 years.
How do I chose a wall clock to fit my décor? Sounds like a simple question, but it is not. Typically, most of us buy the clock with a space in mind, but we skip over the obvious. Like what color of wood will match the rest of the furniture in my home, or how big is too big? So here is a thought. Find the space first, check out your hone décor and find a$y that has the right feel for your home, Or the White oak with accents that will enhance your space. And keep the space or size reasonable. Too big, or too small will frustrate almost anyone.
Hi, Randall here with PlaceOfClocks.com. I received a call today from a young lady interested in having a wall clock repaired. It was an old school house clock with a quartz movement. These clocks are very easy to repair, since the movement can be purchased at hobby lobby, or Michaels. Price of the movement varies with size of hands and need for a second hand, but honestly, i encouraged her to take the clock apart and replace the movement herself. In her case the movement cost $10.00. The glass in the front of the clock had to be removed.....no problem, only six small screws, then the minute hand and hour hand were removed by taking the small round nut on the front of the hands off and pulling straight out from the clock. the movement came loose at this point and it is simply a matter of installing the new movement. Saved her a service call, about $75.00 in her case.
